As high pressure settles south over the area, light winds will allow for an extended period of wildfire smoke to linger over eastern North Dakota into northwest and west-central Minnesota the rest of this week. This will impact air quality through at least Saturday, increasing risk for adverse health effects to all population groups. While this will be a longer exposure window, you will still be able to recover from effects if you go indoors where the air is cleaner and/or use a well fitting N95 or KN95 mask. Additionally, keep their windows closed at night as that is when the smoke usually settles to the ground and will enter structures if windows are left open. Lastly, limit prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors, as well as limit time spent outdoors overall.
